The Tupaarnaq Children's Home is seeking three educators to work with neglected and at-risk children and youth in Nuuk. The job involves participation in activities, project trips, and summer camp, as well as interdisciplinary treatment work and collaboration with parents. We are looking for energetic and independent educators who can work flexible hours and serve as role models.
The children's home Tupaarnaq is designed for 6 children aged 4 to 18 years. It is divided into 2 departments. The target group is children and young people who have experienced neglect and are at risk of developmental issues, but have developmental potential. The staff consists of 1 director, 2 department heads, 4 educators, 2 social workers, 2 assistants, and 1 cleaner/cook.
The children's home was established in 2005. All children and young people placed at Tupaarnaq come from Nuuk, where the intuition is located. This practically means that the family and other networks are an important part of our pedagogical work and strategy. We prioritize relational work highly among all involved parties, as our experiences tell us that the family has a significant impact on the child's development and well-being.
Our everyday life is structured and the predictability is high. We believe that these two concepts create the necessary security, which is crucial for the child's development of trust in themselves and their surroundings.
Our activity level is relatively high; we use the swimming pool, ski lift, and sports clubs as much as possible. We believe that physical well-being and motor skills contribute to creating a healthy surplus and foundation for development in relation to the mental, cognitive, and emotional challenges that the children face during the assessment. Our fundamental belief is that if one is to learn to honor and understand the social rules of society, the child must be challenged in the various environments and contexts where we have our activities. Therefore, it is important that you as an employee want to and can participate and be active in the activities that are set up for the children. The activities should be understood as relationship-building, the common third, and used in the narrative storytelling in our everyday context.
When the children have summer holidays, the entire institution goes on a colony trip. In the summer, we are away for 2 months, where we live in a tent camp deep in the fjord (Ameralla/kilaarsarfik). Here, we work on the development of the children in several areas. We focus on relationship building, understanding of community, outdoor skills, physical and mental challenges, hunting and fishing, sports, team building, and mindfulness, as well as duties and tasks that need to be completed when living in nature. During Easter/winter, we typically sail to Qoornoq for 10-12 days, where the conditions are different regarding wind and weather. Here, winter activities are practiced, such as skiing, sledding, building snow caves, ptarmigan hunting in the mountains, and fishing with a rod. In addition, there are duties like fetching ice for water, cooking, emptying the bucket (dry toilet), washing dishes, and general tidying up in the house.
We are therefore looking for energetic and independent educators who are willing to work with varying working hours. We are seeking colleagues who can build trust and care, set boundaries, and be role models. Your working month will typically include 4-5 night shifts.
Shift in the duty room is not included in the standard of 40 weekly hours. Therefore, you will receive a regular hourly wage during the sleeping hours. In addition, there will be evening shifts from 1 PM to 9 PM and day shifts from 7 AM to 3 PM, as well as every other weekend.
The work area will include, among other things:

Participate in parental collaboration
Participate in practical functions
We expect that you:
Is a Social and Health Helper and has experience working with neglected children.
