Assistant Hotel Manager – Hotel Icefiord, Greenland
Are you a visible and engaged leader who thrives on creating an overview and getting people and tasks to work well together?
At Hotel Icefiord in Ilulissat, we are looking for an Assistant Hotel Manager who will take responsibility for the daily operations and strengthen collaboration across the hotel's departments. You will have daily management responsibility for the reception and work closely with the hotel director, department heads, and the rest of the team to ensure that everyday life functions optimally for both guests and employees.
You are close to the employees and the daily operations, have an eye for what is happening in the organization, and follow up when needed. At the same time, you contribute to a healthy and efficient operation with a focus on finances, resources, and good workflows.
We are looking for someone who is good with people, communicates clearly, and takes initiative when needed. You can create motivation and direction for employees with different experiences and backgrounds – including many young and unskilled colleagues – and contribute to a work environment where everyone helps each other and succeeds together.
About Hotel Icefiord
Hotel Icefiord is located in Ilulissat directly by Disko Bay with a fantastic view of the ice fjord and the impressive icebergs. The hotel has 38 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, and a terrace and will expand with 20 new rooms in 2027.
We are known for our good hospitality, high service level, and strong team spirit. Reception, restaurant, kitchen, and housekeeping depend on each other to make everyday life function, and this requires clear communication, good coordination, and follow-up across departments.
Your primary tasks
- Daily operations and follow-up: Create an overview of the day's tasks, coordinate efforts, and follow up on agreements to ensure that daily operations run smoothly.
- Management of the reception: Have daily management responsibility for the reception in close collaboration with the reception supervisor and together develop good routines and a high service level.
- Coordination across departments: Support good collaboration between reception, restaurant, kitchen, and housekeeping, so that information is shared, and tasks align well across departments.
- Staff management and well-being: Be visible and accessible in everyday life, have an eye for employee well-being and teamwork, and contribute to resolving any disagreements and challenges.
- Direction and responsibility: Create clear frameworks and expectations, support employees in their tasks, and contribute to a culture where everyone takes responsibility and helps each other.
- Finance and administration: Contribute to a healthy and efficient operation with an understanding of the hotel's finances and a focus on good use of resources.
- Recruitment and training: Contribute to recruitment, introduction, and development of employees, so they get a good start and the best conditions for succeeding in their jobs.
- Collaboration with the director: Be a close sparring partner for the director regarding daily operations, employee relations, and practical solutions, and contribute to a good and cohesive operation when the director is not present.
About you
We envision that you:
- Thrive in a broad role, where you need to coordinate, lead, solve practical challenges, and ensure that agreements are translated into action.
- Have experience with staff management and daily operations – preferably from the hotel, restaurant, tourism, or service industry.
- Have experience with hotel systems and are familiar with IT-based work tools.
- Are good at leading young people and employees with different experiences and backgrounds.
- Have an eye for the dynamics in a group of employees and are good at detecting dissatisfaction, collaboration problems, and conflicts before they escalate.
- Dare to have the necessary conversations and handle challenges in a calm, respectful, and consistent manner.
- Have good financial understanding and interest in how staffing, resources, and workflows affect the hotel's operations.
- Work structured, maintain an overview, and follow up, even when there are many tasks ongoing at the same time.
