The position requires leadership experience, the ability to create networks, and collaboration with businesses. You will lead a team and work to develop the business sector in Nuuk and the surrounding area.

Department Head for Tourism and Business

The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for an independent and proactive department head who can set direction, bring people together, and create concrete results through their team and in close collaboration with the business community.

You will have management responsibility for the business and tourism efforts throughout the municipality – and for Visit Nuuk, Visit Paamiut, and Destination East Greenland.

We are looking for you who takes initiative, opens doors, and follows up. You, along with your employees, should be visible and proactive among businesses in Nuuk, Paamiut, Tasiilaq, Ittoqqortoormiit, and the settlements. You are able to leverage the diverse skills of your employees so that together you can see local opportunities, create strong networks, and translate dialogue into collaboration and action.

Your responsibilities:

You will be responsible for the department's seven employees and must create the framework for you to succeed together with the business and tourism efforts. You set a clear direction, prioritize tasks, and ensure progress while giving employees responsibility, space for initiative, and the opportunity to use their expertise. You work independently, make decisions within your management scope, and take responsibility for driving development forward.

Additionally:

·Lead and develop the municipality's business and tourism efforts based on political goals, local needs, and the conditions of businesses into concrete actions and results.

·Build and maintain close relationships with the business community throughout the municipality, facilitate business forums and networking meetings, and translate businesses' input into relevant actions.

·Take overall management responsibility for Visit Nuuk, Visit Paamiut, and Destination East Greenland and ensure direction, coordination, and local anchoring.

·Strengthen the framework conditions for the business community, including maritime industries, fishing, and hunting, and develop the interplay between tourism and other industries.

·Ensure qualified political servicing with clear case presentations, decision proposals, and follow-up.

·Create progress in projects and partnerships and coordinate efforts across administrations.

You achieve results through leadership and relationships:

We are looking for a strong leadership profile with a proven ability to take responsibility and lead initiatives from idea to implementation. You do not need to wait for a finished job description to take action. You identify needs, gather the right stakeholders, and ensure that agreements are followed through.

You understand how to work in a politically governed organization. You respect the division of roles between politics and administration, provide a factual basis for decision-making, and loyally implement political decisions. At the same time, you can make opportunities, priorities, and consequences clear to both management and partners.

We emphasize that you:

·Have solid management experience and can create clear direction, responsibility, and engagement among employees.

·Have experience with business development and/or tourism and understand the everyday life and development opportunities of businesses.

·Are a strong networker who can establish trust, facilitate meetings, and gather various interests around concrete actions.

·Work independently, prioritize sharply, and maintain progress, even when tasks are complex.

·Have political and organizational understanding and communicate clearly and convincingly in writing and speech.

·Have an understanding of Greenlandic societal conditions and can adapt actions to different local conditions in towns and settlements.

∙Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

We offer:

You will have a central leadership role with the opportunity to influence business and tourism development throughout the Municipality of Sermersooq. You will lead engaged employees and have a broad collaboration interface with businesses, destination actors, organizations, and colleagues across the municipality.
