The Government of Greenland – Greenland's Self-Government is seeking a professionally strong and visionary Head of Internal Audit, who can lead Internal Audit. This is a central leadership position responsible for further developing Internal Audit as a modern, professional, and value-adding function.
The position is located in Nuuk and reports to the director of the Department of Finance and Personnel. The Head of Audit must ensure high professional quality in the audit work and contribute to good financial management, internal control, risk management, and governance culture in the Self-Government.
Internal Audit consists of four employees and is organizationally placed in the Department of Finance and Personnel, but performs its work independently across the Self-Government's departments, agencies, institutions, and funds. The new Head of Audit will play a central role in building professional capacity and creating trust and collaboration throughout the organization – including with the central accounting department and external audit.
The position includes both professional leadership and development of Internal Audit. The Head of Audit must set direction, drive audit tasks, and translate audit observations into improvements in the organization. The main tasks are:
- Lead and develop Internal Audit as a modern and value-adding unit
- Professionally develop the employees and ensure competence development, well-being, and professional sparring in the unit
- Support the implementation of recommendations from audits and external evaluations
- Develop collaboration with external audit and other central functions
- Advise management on internal control, risk management, and good governance
- Ensure high quality and compliance with international auditing standards as well as plan and execute risk-based audit and control efforts
The right candidate has a strong auditing background and can combine high professionalism with leadership, development, and clear communication. Additionally:
- Cand.merc.aud. – preferably SR (state-authorized auditor)
- Danish and English at a high level - Greenlandic is an advantage
- Solid experience with auditing and accounting – preferably experience with internal auditing
- Experience with risk-based auditing and international auditing standards
- Experience with compliance, internal controls, and risk management
- Experience with or interest in leadership, including employee development and professional environments
- Ability to advise and communicate with management as well as convey complex audit and risk issues clearly to non-specialists
- Experience from the public sector or another politically led organization is an advantage, as is experience from larger, complex organizations
It is crucial that the new Head of Audit can set a clear professional and strategic direction, create followership, and maintain professional independence and integrity – even when the results are uncomfortable. Additionally, the ability to navigate securely in a politically led organization, create trusting relationships at both management and employee levels, and have an understanding of Greenlandic societal conditions and culture is essential.
This is an exciting leadership position with significant influence on the development of good governance and financial management in Greenland's Self-Government. The new Head of Audit will be part of an engaged team and will have the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the organization's governance and control environment. The position offers good opportunities for balance between work and leisure as well as for maintaining and sharpening professional competencies. If the selected candidate has deposited their authorization, there will still be access to the mandatory professional maintenance. There will be a handover from the current Head of Audit upon commencement.
