Social worker/caseworker for the Prison and Probation Service in Freedom, in Aasiaat

The Prison and Probation Service in Greenland offers an exciting position as a social worker/caseworker in Aasiaat. The work is varied, challenging, and developmental. You will be part of a team of a total of 14 probation staff employed across the country. The work is very independent, with long-distance management from Nuuk. In Aasiaat, you will be a colleague with the uniformed officers in the institution and have close cooperation with the Prison and Probation Service in Freedom in Ilulissat.

Your immediate supervisor is the Head of Resocialization based in Nuuk.

Specific areas of responsibility

As a social worker/caseworker in the Prison and Probation Service in Aasiaat, your daily tasks will include concrete case processing of the inmates' cases, organizing parole releases, supervising parolees and forensic psychiatric clients, as well as community service sentenced individuals.

In addition, it is an essential task to maintain contact with external partners, such as municipalities, healthcare, self-government, and similar.

You are expected to contribute to the development of the case processing area in close cooperation with other colleagues in the Prison and Probation Service.

There may be official trips to the coast and to the settlements as needed.

You have experience with case processing and preferably have a degree as a social worker or similar. You are good at getting an overview and have strong abilities to systematize and plan tasks. You find it exciting to motivate other people. You enjoy having many tasks and can see opportunities and potentials in everyone. You are calm and accommodating towards others. You speak both Danish and Greenlandic.

Who are we

The institution for convicted individuals in Aasiaat has space for 15 inmates. These are both convicted and detained individuals. In the Prison and Probation Service, there are approximately 140 permanent employees, and additionally, about 25 people are associated on hourly contracts. The Prison and Probation Service in Freedom has 6 regional offices nationwide, located in Sisimiut, Nuuk, Tasiilaq, Qaqortoq, Aasiaat, and Ilulissat.

The Prison and Probation Service has two main tasks.

·       We must ensure the necessary control and security around the enforcement of sentences.

·       We must support and motivate the citizens we are in contact with to live a crime-free life.

The Prison and Probation Service is also a training place, as we train prison officers ourselves.

Salary and employment conditions

You will be employed according to the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and Atorfillit Kattuffiat for social workers and caseworkers. The salary is determined based on seniority and is expected to be between approximately 23,800 – 27,000 DKK per month excluding any supplements, depending on whether you are a trained social worker or caseworker.

The average working time is 40 hours per week.

Vacation travel is provided according to the applicable rules at any time. Unfurnished staff housing may be assigned, for which payment is made according to applicable rules.
