Ilisimatusarfik is seeking a research assistant for the Department of Arctic Social Sciences and Economics. The position requires a relevant master's degree and skills in communication and coordination. The employment is full-time with the possibility of part-time, and the application deadline is October 7th.

Ilisimatusarfik is looking for a research assistant for the Department of Arctic Social Sciences and Economics with a start date of November 1, 2026, or by agreement.

It is not a requirement that you have a social science or economic background, only that you have organizational skills, a can-do attitude with new tasks, and a desire to contribute to consolidating and developing the education programs.

The responsibility for studies in business economics and social sciences is placed in the Department of Arctic Social Sciences and Economics. Employees anchored in the department are therefore expected to contribute to both the development and administration of the education programs and research projects related to the education.

Currently, there are about 130 students enrolled in the programs. Therefore, there is a need for a research assistant for development and administrative tasks in the department. The position is primarily full-time, but part-time can be agreed upon.

Qualification requirements:

  • Has a relevant higher education at the master's level.

  • Has knowledge of Greenland and the Greenlandic society.

  • Has experience with planning and coordinating logistics around travel.

  • Has skills in communication and coordination and written presentation.

  • Trilingual in Greenlandic, Danish, and English is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Note, the applicant does not need to be able to solve all the types of tasks listed below, they are just examples. Applicants can apply with a focus on competencies that correspond to a combination of administrative support for development tasks or practical functions, or can place more emphasis on one or the other.

Examples of tasks in non-prioritized order:

  • External and internal communication.

  • Planning and coordinating course activities, schedule and exam planning.

  • Development and pilot projects as well as applications for external funding in collaboration with the department head

  • Student events

  • Contact with external instructors.

  • Booking of rooms and other facilities.

  • Grant applications.

  • Marketing of the education.

  • Technology and IT.

  • Ad hoc tasks related to the preparation of teaching, e.g., printing of materials.

About Ilisimatusarfik
Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University, was established in 1987 and currently offers 13 different programs including some part-time programs at both diploma and master's level. Ilisimatusarfik is an Arctic university that creates knowledge and innovation in a region undergoing rapid development. The board is the university's highest management. The daily management is handled by the rector and university director. The four institutes are led by an institute head, who is advised by an institute council.

About the Joint Administration
The Joint Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik and in Ilinniarfissuaq. The departments work closely with the academic units but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration are: study administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's employees and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary - and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and departure travel and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

3 months probation period

In this position, there is a 3-month probation period.
