The Greenland Research Council is seeking a coordinator for the council's secretariat. The position involves the development and support of research in Greenland. The Greenland Research Council is seeking an engaged and professionally strong coordinator / AC officer for the council's secretariat under the Research Administration at the Department of Environment, Nature, Energy and Research, starting on November 1 or as soon as possible.

As a coordinator, you will play a central role in developing and supporting the council's work and ensuring progress in important strategic areas.

About the Greenland Research Council

The Greenland Research Council is an independent national administrative body that works to promote and strengthen the development of Greenlandic research for the benefit of society. The council's two core functions are the allocation of research funds and advising decision-makers and stakeholders on research-related and research policy issues.

The council also works to strengthen Greenlandic participation in international research collaboration, promote research communication, and support research that contributes to sustainable development of Greenlandic society.

As a coordinator, you will support the council's work in accordance with applicable legislation and contribute to realizing the visions and goals that the council and its presidency formulate in coordination with Naalakkersuisut via the relevant ministry.

As a coordinator, you will report professionally to the council's chairperson, while you are organizationally and physically located in the Research Administration in Nuuk.

We expect that you have a relevant master's degree. Applicants with a relevant bachelor's degree and solid experience may also be considered. For particularly qualified candidates with relevant experience, we may consider hiring as a special consultant or chief consultant.

Job Responsibilities

You will have a varied everyday life where the tasks will include:

  • Preparation of cases for the council's meetings, and follow-up on decisions made by the council.
  • Planning and implementation of calls for research funds, including application processing and advising applicants for the council's funds
  • Minutes writing at the council's meetings.
  • Contributing to the development of the council's research policy and research professional advice, including e.g. consultation responses and research policy documents
  • Preparing budgets for the national treasury as well as accounts for approval
  • Communication work
    • Preparing annual reports, press releases, and other communication materials
    • Maintaining the council's website in three languages, as well as social media
  • Facilitating good collaboration with
    • The relevant ministry
    • International institutions that finance research and research infrastructure in the Arctic and Nordic regions
    • Research environments
    • Other partners and stakeholders

Other tasks within the council's area of responsibility may also become relevant.

When hiring, emphasis will be placed on

  • Competence in research and knowledge of research policy issues
  • Familiarity with the research system and research policy in Greenland and preferably the broader Arctic and Nordic research landscape
  • Competence in research funding and administration in general
  • Competence in international research collaboration
  • Good communication skills both orally and in writing, including in Greenlandic, Danish, and English

Additionally, it is desirable that the candidate has

  • The ability to work independently, purposefully, structured, and carefully in both an international and local environment, where the pace can sometimes be high
  • Good collaboration skills and a good understanding of roles and processes

The employee is expected to work broadly and interdisciplinary, including outside their own field. Furthermore, the person hired should be able to see the Greenland Research Council's activities in a research policy context and advise on the council's further development.

Salary and Employment Conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
