AC full-time employee, special consultant or chief consultant for the Environmental Department

The Environmental Department in the Ministry of Environment, Nature, Energy and Research is looking for a professionally strong and engaged colleague – preferably with experience in the environment and with good generalist skills.

About the position

The Environmental Department handles a wide range of tasks in areas such as waste, drinking water, coastal marine environment, wastewater, EIA, and particularly polluting companies. In addition, the department is responsible for the management of a number of international environmental protection agreements. The department is staffed with a department head and 8 employees.

As an AC officer, special consultant or chief consultant in the Environmental Department, you will have the opportunity to work with, for example:

• Projects and case processing in the waste area – including collaboration with municipalities and other stakeholders.
• Working with Greenland's deposit return system.
• EIA and environmental approvals.

The position involves both concrete authority tasks, strategic development work, and tasks with political attention, particularly in the waste area. You will collaborate broadly – both internally in the ministry and externally with municipalities, authorities, and international actors.

Your tasks will include

• Case processing in one or more environmental areas depending on competencies and interests
• Preparation of decision proposals, notes, and responses to political level
• Coordination of hearings across sectors
• Preparation and revision of legislation, regulations, and guidelines
• Guidance of municipalities and companies
• Quality assurance of material for management and the Minister
• Possibly project management of development projects, depending on your professional profile

You will have close collaboration with the department's other employees and may have tasks across the environmental area.

About you

We expect you to:

• Have a higher academic education, or other relevant professional background.
• Preferably have experience with and interest in one or more environmental issue areas.
• Be a sharp communicator – both in writing and orally – in Greenlandic, Danish, and English.
• Have knowledge of or interest in Greenlandic society and culture and can navigate in a multicultural context.

About us

The Ministry of Environment, Nature, Energy and Research has approximately 45 employees distributed across several departments, including the Department of Environment; Department of Nature, Department of Climate, Department of Energy, Department of Research, and Department of Service, Economy, and Personnel. Additionally, the Environmental Agency for Mineral Resources, Pinngortitaleriffik (Greenland Institute of Natural Resources), Nukissiorfiit, the Electricity Authority, and Asiaq (Greenland Survey) fall under the ministry.

Salary and Employment Conditions

Salary and employment conditions in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the positions. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
