Researcher in Marine Ecosystem Monitoring at Greenland's Climate Research Center

Greenland Climate Research Center (GCRC) at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources is seeking a researcher in marine ecology for a 2-year position with the possibility of extension.

The position includes coordination of the MarineBasis Zackenberg monitoring program, which is part of Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM). The right candidate will also have the opportunity to develop and participate in other research projects.

About GCRC

GCRC conducts interdisciplinary, long-term research and monitoring of physical, chemical, and biological processes in Greenlandic fjords and marine areas. Research focuses on the effects of climate change on the marine ecosystem and the Greenlandic society. The center also contributes to research-based education and advice to Greenlandic authorities.

The Position

The right candidate will, in collaboration with other participating institutions, plan and participate in the annual field campaign in the Zackenberg area in Northeast Greenland, ensure high professional and organizational quality in the program's implementation, and participate in the Coordination Group for GEM.

The position requires organizational skills, experience with handling and analyzing large datasets (preferably long-term monitoring and time series), as well as the ability to attract external research funding. The position offers the opportunity to develop and lead research projects based on the monitoring program, as well as to attract externally funded projects that strengthen and expand the scientific significance of the program. The candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary research team and will engage in an international research environment that works with integrated studies in oceanography, marine ecology, and climate-related processes with a focus on understanding natural variation and climate-driven changes in Arctic marine ecosystems. Therefore, emphasis is placed on the candidate's ability and vision to collaborate with other research projects and monitoring programs.

The right candidate is expected to:

• be the scientific leader for MarineBasis Zackenberg
• plan and participate in annual field activities
• handle, analyze, and report monitoring and research data
• develop new interdisciplinary research projects and prepare grant applications
• publish in international, scientific journals
• contribute to teaching and educational activities

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or master's degree in marine biology, oceanography, or a closely related field.

In the assessment, emphasis will be placed on:

• professional expertise
• publication list in international, peer-reviewed journals
• ability to attract external research funding
• experience with marine or environmental monitoring programs or research
• experience with Arctic marine ecosystems
• international collaboration network
• experience working with large datasets such as long-term series.

Salary and Employment Conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources provides rental housing for the first year of employment. After that, housing must be found in the private market.
