There is an available PhD position at the Institute of Society, Economy and Journalism, Ilisimatusarfik. The position is associated with the research project EPIC, which investigates Greenlandic school students' relationship with climate change. Applications are accepted until the position is filled.

Are you interested in a research career with a fully funded PhD program? There is currently an open PhD position at the Institute of Society, Economy and Journalism, Ilisimatusarfik.

The position is available for occupancy from November 1 or as soon as possible by agreement. The working hours are 40 hours per week.

The position is associated with the research project: Experiences and Perceptions of Climate Change: A View of the Next Generation (EPIC). The project investigates Greenlandic school students' relationship with climate change and to what extent climate change figures in the education. The research project is conducted using child panels and in primary schools located across Greenland. The research project is a collaboration between the University of Copenhagen, the University of Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik), the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (Pinngortitaleriffik), and UNICEF Greenland.

The project is funded by the Danish Free Research Fund (DFF) (5345-00021B) and is led by P.I. Professor Benedikte Brincker, University of Copenhagen and adjunct professor Ilisimatusarfik, Co-P.I. Assistant Professor Mîtdlârak Lennert, Institute of Society, Economy and Journalism, Ilisimatusarfik and Co-P.I. and Lecturer Lars Demant Poort, Institute of Learning, Ilisimatusarfik.

We expect you to:

  • Have a higher education at the master's level in social sciences or learning
  • Have knowledge of Greenlandic and/or Arctic conditions
  • Be able to communicate in Greenlandic, Danish, and English
  • Otherwise meet the requirements to be enrolled as a PhD student

The employment period for the PhD scholarship position is 3 years and there is a requirement for residence in Greenland.

About Ilisimatusarfik
Ilisimatusarfik, the University of Greenland, was established in 1987 and currently offers 13 different programs including options for some part-time studies at both diploma and master's level. Ilisimatusarfik is an Arctic university that creates knowledge and innovation in a rapidly developing region. The board is the university's highest management. The daily management is handled by the rector and university director. The four institutes are led by an institute director, who is advised by an institute council.

  • Institute of Health & Nature

About the Joint Administration
The Joint Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik. The departments work closely with the academic units, but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration are: study administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and Academic Council as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary - and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
For an applicant with the right documented competencies, employment as a special consultant, chief consultant, or senior advisor may occur in accordance with the applicable collective agreement

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

3 months probation period

In this position, there is a 3 months probation period.
