The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for an engaged leader for the Community House Illorput and the Handicraft Workshop Ajagaq

Are you passionate about leadership, creativity, and community? Do you want to lead a vibrant community house and a unique handicraft workshop where citizens, artists, and associations come together around creativity, culture, and Greenlandic craftsmanship traditions? Then you might be our new leader.

About Illorput and Ajagaq

The Community House Illorput and the Handicraft Workshop Ajagaq are part of the Department of Leisure & Culture under the Administration for Children and Schools in the Municipality of Sermersooq.

Illorput is a community house that provides a framework for cultural, creative, and social activities for citizens of all ages. The house is an open meeting place where creativity, community, and learning go hand in hand. Illorput includes a sewing room as well as a ceramics and painting workshop where citizens can develop their creative skills and participate in various activities. In addition, Illorput has a large hall with kitchen facilities and a smaller hall used for meetings, courses, café events, cultural activities, and other gatherings. The premises can also be rented or loaned to citizens, associations, and organizations. There is 1 cultural worker and 1 cleaner associated with it, in addition to the leader.

Ajagaq is a municipal handicraft workshop where local artists work with and exhibit Greenlandic handicraft art. The workshop specializes in processing stone, bone, antler, and wood and provides both professional artists and citizens the opportunity to work with traditional Greenlandic crafts. Ajagaq also offers leisure education where participants can learn techniques in Greenlandic handicrafts. In Ajagaq, there is a daily employee associated who handles some of the operations.

As a leader, you will be responsible for the daily operations and development of both Illorput and Ajagaq. You must ensure that the two houses continue to be attractive and inspiring meeting places where creativity, art, culture, and community are developed in close collaboration with citizens, artists, associations, and other partners.

A significant part of the position will be to create stronger connections between Illorput, Ajagaq, and the rest of the Leisure and Culture Department. You should actively bring the houses' facilities, employees' competencies, and users' ideas into play in the municipality's overall cultural and leisure work. This can happen through joint activities, cross-cutting projects, leisure education, cultural events, artistic collaborations, and offerings for children, youth, adults, and associations.

The position is a full-time position reporting to the Head of Leisure & Culture.
