The Social Authority is seeking a social worker for the Day and Admission Department in Nuuk. The position involves case management, admission to residential institutions, and advising municipalities. Experience in social work and knowledge of legislation are required. Employment is full-time under collective agreement terms.

About the Social Authority
The Social Authority is under the Department of Children, Youth and Families and the following 5 departments: Paarisa, Day and Referral Department, Department for Advising Caseworkers, Finance Department, and the Secretariat. The departments work closely together, and it is a workplace that offers plenty of professional challenges.
 
About the position:
We are looking for a social worker who can work as a Visitor in the Day and Referral Department, who has experience with case processing in the municipality and has knowledge of social work as well as legislation. 

The Day and Referral Department is responsible for referrals to residential institutions and day services as well as advising and guiding municipal caseworkers and staff at residential institutions and day services. 

The department operates a central referral system and manages the overall leadership, coordination, and operation of the Self-Government's nationwide residential institutions and day services for children, youth, and adults in the social and disability sector. In addition, the department works on the development, implementation, and quality assurance of new initiatives as well as upgrading leaders and staff at residential institutions and day services with the aim of strengthening the quality of the efforts.

As a Visitor, your primary tasks will be to refer citizens to relevant residential institutions and day services as well as provide advice and guidance to municipalities regarding placements outside the home for vulnerable children and youth and persons with disabilities. You contribute to strengthening the legal and social professional quality in case processing and support a uniform and professionally founded practice across municipalities.
 
Tasks/areas:

  • Case processing regarding placement cases, referrals, and legislation.
  • Social professional advice and guidance to the residential institutions.
  • Social professional advice and guidance to the municipalities.
  • Purpose descriptions and service declarations regarding self-government owned residential institutions.
  • Contributing to the development of new initiatives generally in the residential area.
  • Assisting in the preparation of guidelines and procedures regarding placement cases and referrals.
  • Helping to facilitate at director seminars.
  • Various ad hoc tasks.

We expect that you:

  • Are a qualified social worker.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of case processing and social legislation.
  • Have experience in the social field.
  • Are independent, flexible, structured, and solution-oriented.
  • Are well-founded in writing/speaking, both Greenlandic and Danish.
  • Have good collaboration and communication skills.
  • Are willing to take independent responsibility in solving the tasks of the Social Authority.
  • Are eager to work in a multidisciplinary environment where individuals contribute to holistic solutions.
  • Are willing to work in a busy and developing environment and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Travel activity is expected.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in effect at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing
An unfurnished staff housing can be assigned for the position according to the applicable rules at any time. Housing cannot be assigned to individuals who already have staff housing or another housing owned by the municipality or the Government of Greenland. Rent and deposit are paid according to the applicable rules for the assigned housing. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the housing, ownership conditions, etc. There may be waiting time for the assignment of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller co-housing or hotel apartments, for which taxation applies. It is not possible to keep larger pets such as dogs or cats in staff or temporary housing.

Employment start date:
September 1, 2026, or by further agreement.
