Avannaata Municipality is seeking an environmental employee for the Environmental Department in Ilulissat. The position involves developing waste management, environmental supervision, and case processing. You will work with transport solutions and public cleaning, as well as liaise with waste collectors. An academic technical/scientific education and experience with IT systems are desired.
Avannaata Municipality is seeking an environmental employee for the Environmental Department. They are looking for an outgoing person with technical skills and an interest in waste management.
The position is a permanent employment that aims to ensure both the implementation of new initiatives in waste management within the municipality and the processing of incoming environmental cases.
You will have a daily workplace in Ilulissat, where you will have good opportunities to influence the future development in the environmental field. Right now, the department is facing significant tasks related to waste management throughout the municipality, in which we envision you actively participating as an employee in the environmental department.
Within the department's areas, you will work with

Environmental supervision and case processing

Development of waste management in villages and cities

Develop, implement, and execute strategy and action plans for the waste sector.

Implementation of initiatives in waste transport

Communication of information about the maintenance of outdoor areas
You will be working on projects related to transportation solutions for waste from cities and towns, as well as public cleaning. You will also have a lot of contact with waste collectors, who often need input on solution options for waste management.
Competence
-
Has an academic technical/scientific education, e.g. environmental engineer, technician, biologist, natural geographer, geologist, or similar.

Experience with professional/administrative IT systems.

Practical experience from a municipality or another company dealing with the environment is preferred, but recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.

Desire to actively influence the development for the benefit of people and nature throughout the municipality.

Understanding the importance of meeting citizens at eye level and with respect.

Desire to travel and stay in villages and towns outside of Ilulissat.

Interest in working in a political organization.

Good collaboration skills.
·Preferably language skills in both Greenlandic, Danish, and English. Bilingual applicants will be preferred.

Knowledge of Greenlandic conditions.

Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment will be in accordance with the applicable relevant collective agreement. Housing will be provided for the position.
The position is desired to be filled by July 15, 2026, or by further agreement.

The position is physically located in Ilulissat, which, with its approximately 5,000 inhabitants, is North Greenland's administrative, cultural, business, and educational center.
The city is undergoing rapid development, and there are therefore high demands for the municipal operations to always match both internal and external expectations of a public service organization. The city's picturesque location also offers unique opportunities for hunting, fishing, and sailing.
