The Data Protection Agency is seeking a director to establish and lead a new office in Nuuk, Greenland. The position involves responsibility for complaint cases, supervision, and advice on data protection. A relevant academic degree and experience in public administration are required. Leadership experience is an advantage. The workplace will be in Nuuk from September 2026.

The Danish Data Protection Agency will open an office in Greenland in 2026 with the aim of getting closer to citizens, businesses, and authorities in Greenland and contributing to making data protection both more accessible and more relevant in a Greenlandic context.

The office, which will be staffed with approximately three full-time equivalents, will be located in Nuuk.

As the head of the office in Nuuk, you will have the professional and operational responsibility for a wide range of tasks, including handling complaint cases and other forms of supervision regarding compliance with data protection regulations, as well as providing advice and guidance. In addition to the professional and operational responsibility for task execution, you will have daily responsibility for the management of the other employees in the office.

You will become part of the Data Protection Agency, where we place great emphasis on knowledge sharing and collaboration, and where you will have good opportunities to continuously develop your skills.

The cohesion in the Data Protection Agency is strong, and we will also focus on this in relation to the office in Nuuk despite the geographical distance.

About you

You have a relevant academic degree (Master of Laws, Master of Business Administration in Law, or similar) and have solid experience with public administration and data protection law.

You should be able to communicate in Danish in writing and speech, and it will be an advantage but not a requirement that you are bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish.

In addition, you should be prepared for the fact that especially the startup in Nuuk will also involve handling practical ad hoc tasks.

Salary and employment conditions

The positions are to be filled on June 1, 2026, or as soon as possible.

The area of employment is the Data Protection Agency.

From around September 1, 2026, when the office is expected to open, your workplace will be the Data Protection Authority's location in Nuuk. Until the opening of the office in Nuuk, your workplace in Denmark or Greenland will be determined by agreement between you and the director of the Data Protection Authority.

You will be employed on an individual contract. The terms of employment in the individual contract will be established based on parts of the terms of employment in the collective agreement for legal candidates and university economists, etc., in the service of the state in Greenland, and the agreement on salary and employment conditions for collectively agreed managers in the Greenland Self-Government and in the Greenlandic municipalities (the common managerial agreement).

The salary level will correspond to the base salary applicable to chief consultants with personnel management according to the current collective agreement for academics in the state (in Denmark). There will be an opportunity to negotiate an individual salary supplement. The base salary for a chief consultant with personnel management is 515,000 DKK as of March 31, 2012, equivalent to 643,299.89 DKK at the current level (November 1, 2025).

Your average weekly working time is 40 hours. Overtime may occur.

You earn vacation with pay and special vacation days according to the applicable law on vacation at any given time.

You are covered by the Greenlandic provisions on holidays and the Greenlandic Salaried Employees Act.

You are provided with travel to and from Nuuk in Greenland as well as the relocation of household goods according to applicable regulations in the area.

The Data Protection Agency provides you with a service apartment in Nuuk, where you pay a housing contribution according to the agreement on service apartments in Greenland.

It is a prerequisite for employment that you consent to the Danish Data Protection Agency obtaining and assessing information about you from the Central Criminal Register and evaluating the information. Furthermore, it is a prerequisite that you can be granted security clearance, as well as being able to maintain the security clearance throughout your employment.
