Psychotherapist for Children and Youth Affected by Grief and Trauma

Inulerivik is seeking a psychotherapist to work with children and youth experiencing complicated grief reactions after a death. The position involves specialized therapy and collaboration with the National Grief Center in Denmark. We are looking for someone with experience in psychology and trauma treatment, who can build trusting relationships and has knowledge of Greenlandic culture.

Are you empathetic and passionate about helping children and young people with complicated grief reactions after a death? For example, children and young people who have lost someone to a death may be at increased risk for complicated grief reactions.

Complicated grief reactions occur when a person is unable to adjust to the loss of a loved one and experiences prolonged and intense grief reactions. This can be due to a sudden or traumatic death, the survivor's mental state, as well as the relationship with the deceased. These reactions can be debilitating and affect both mental and physical health.

Similarly, complicated grief reactions related to death increase the suicide risk of the bereaved. If you are passionate about addressing this issue, you may be the treatment professional we are looking for.

About the position:

We offer a unique opportunity to become part of a dedicated team, where you will work with children and young people experiencing complicated grief reactions after a death and become a key person regarding complicated grief reactions in Inulerivik. You will have the chance to apply your therapeutic skills to support and guide our child and young client through their healing processes. The tasks consist of specialized grief and trauma therapy for children, young people, and their families after a death.

The position is part of a development project in close collaboration with the National Grief Center in Denmark, which will support the project with grief expertise, method development, evaluation, and will be responsible for the ongoing training and supervision of the two key individuals regarding grief and complicated grief reactions.

Your tasks are:

  • Individual and can have group therapy with children and adolescents
  • Method development and adjustment of treatment plans based on the individual client's needs and experiences.
  • Project development and contribute to evaluation
  • Participation in training, supervision, presentations, and ongoing professional development to ensure the highest treatment standards.
  • Relevant education and experience in psychology, psychotherapy, trauma treatment, or similar with a focus on trauma and crisis intervention.
  • Has experience with grief - crisis - trauma work
  • The ability to create trusting relationships with children and young people who have experienced serious trauma.
  • Has the desire and ability for interdisciplinary collaboration
  • An empathetic mind and willingness to listen and support in difficult situations.
  • Knowledge of methods and interventions that can help children and young people process trauma.
  • Has knowledge of Greenland and Greenlandic culture. Speaks Greenlandic and Danish.
  • Has good IT skills, including experience with online conversations.

The practical

The position is a project employment, full-time (40 hours weekly) and is located in Nuuk. Some travel activity can be expected in connection with the position.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation travel and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
