Become part of a unique community in one of the world's most isolated workplaces.
As a station employee at the Weather Station Danmarkshavn, you help ensure the collection of meteorological data, which is of great importance for air traffic in the North Atlantic. You will have a daily life characterized by responsibility, diverse tasks, and close collaboration with five dedicated colleagues – in the midst of the magnificent nature of Northeast Greenland.
About the position
The weather station Danmarkshavn is built where the Denmark expedition had its base station from 1906 to 1908. Today, the station is operated by Tusass A/S, and the station's main task is to collect and transmit meteorological data, which is used in weather forecasts and the planning of air traffic over the North Atlantic.
As a station employee, you will be part of one of two teams that take turns operating the station in a 50/50 arrangement. Each team consists of a station manager, a cook, a radiosonde leader, two station employees, a mechanic – and the station's two permanent guard dogs.
Your tasks will include:
Maintenance of the station's buildings and outdoor areas.
Radio sounding and participation in the collection of meteorological data.
Driving with construction equipment and snow removal.
Cleaning of common areas and other practical operational tasks.
Disposal of household waste and water collection.
Participation in all incidental work, where everyone helps each other across areas of responsibility.
We consciously assemble our team with different professional competencies. For this position, we are therefore looking for a colleague with a mechanical background who can contribute practical and technical skills to the daily operations – while also participating equally with the rest of the team in the station's many shared tasks.
No days are exactly the same, and everyone at the station contributes where needed. Therefore, flexibility and collaboration are a natural part of everyday life.
We are looking for you who…
The job places high demands on both professionalism and personal qualities. You must be able to thrive with long periods far from family and friends, limited opportunities for privacy, and close collaboration with the same colleagues every day. In return, you become part of a unique community and have a workday that very few experience.
Life in Danmarkshavn is different from most other workplaces. Here, you live and work closely with the same colleagues in one of the world's most remote areas. There is no opportunity to go home on weekends or change your surroundings if everyday life becomes challenging.
Therefore, it is extremely important that you thrive in a small community, can work both independently and at the same time manage to actively contribute to the collaboration. You meet your colleagues with respect, flexibility, and good humor. We place great emphasis on everyone contributing to a good everyday life – both at work and in life at the station.
Professional qualifications:
You have a craft background – preferably as a mechanic, agricultural machinery mechanic, construction machinery mechanic, or truck mechanic.
It is a plus if you have experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of machines and technical equipment.
You work in a structured manner and can plan and prioritize your tasks.
You have a good knack for hands-on tasks and thrive with practical assignments.
Personal qualifications:
You are a team player who contributes positively to the community.
You take responsibility and see your tasks through to completion.
You are flexible and naturally help out, even outside your own area of responsibility.
You communicate respectfully and collaborate well with different people.
You can present a clean criminal record.
Physical requirements:
You are in top shape both physically and mentally, have good health, and thrive in a changing everyday life.
You can document good health and good dental health. This is done as part of the employment through a UK Oil & Gas Offshore health examination, which Tusass pays for.
There are about five annual flights to and from the station. The stays last for nine weeks as a rule, while the winter period every other year lasts about 16 weeks. During the stay, it will only be possible to leave the station in completely extraordinary situations.
We offer
We offer a very special workplace where you become part of a strong community in some of the world's most spectacular surroundings.
You will be employed on an individual contract with a fixed monthly salary year-round. During your stays at the station, you have free meals and accommodation (taxable), and Tusass pays for travel to and from the station upon joining and leaving.
Practical information
Commencement: 01.10.2026 or by further agreement.
The first stay at the station will be from 15-10-2026 to 04-02-2027.
Application process
The position can be applied for by sending a CV and application via the button on the right no later than 12-08-2026.
We do not accept applications by email.
We process incoming applications continuously, just as interviews are conducted continuously. The position will be filled when the right candidate is found.
