Legal Case Handler

We are looking for a legal case handler starting August 1, 2026. Responsibilities include handling complaints from citizens and inspecting institutions. Qualifications include a relevant social science degree and an interest in public law. We offer a well-functioning workplace with a good working environment.

We are looking for a legal case handler (trainee or special consultant) to start on August 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

The Ombudsman is elected to oversee whether the self-government authorities and the Greenlandic municipalities comply with applicable law.

We mainly handle complaints from citizens. In addition, we also take up cases ourselves, for example, topics specifically selected from a complaint or after being mentioned in the press, just as we conduct municipal visits and inspections of institutions. This can lead to criticism or the authorities may receive a recommendation to reconsider their decisions or practices, in accordance with the ombudsman's comments in the case.

The case processing takes place in collaboration with the head of the court and the other legal case handlers. Each case handler has ample opportunity to plan their work and follow the assigned cases from start to finish.

In addition, the caseworkers participate to a lesser extent in solving other work tasks and administrative functions.

Qualifications for the job

It is expected that you as an applicant:

· Has relevant social science education as a Master of Laws (cand.jur.) or Bachelor of Laws (bac.jur.) with good theoretical knowledge, as well as strong written communication skills. If you are a Bachelor of Laws, we expect you to complete the Master's program within a few years, and we will support your opportunities for this in accordance with further agreement.

· Has a particular interest in public law and a desire to delve into administrative law.

· Abilities to understand complex and diverse legal issues

· Is responsible and works independently on your tasks

· Has relevant experience, e.g. from central administration, the courts, municipalities, or the legal profession. Recent graduates will also be considered.

How is the workplace?

We are a small workplace, currently consisting of the ombudsman, the head of the court, and the chief interpreter. In addition, we have 6 caseworkers, an interpreter, and a secretary.

We offer a well-functioning workplace with a good working environment, where we help each other in solving the overall tasks.

For especially recent graduates, we offer a solid, thorough, and classic legal training that you will greatly benefit from in your future career.

The working hours are 40 hours per week. We normally do not have overtime. We have flexible hours and flexible conditions.

We provide staff accommodation, for which payment is made according to applicable regulations. We pay for your relocation travel and moving of belongings. After three years of employment, a severance travel and moving of belongings is provided.

Salary and employment conditions

The salary and employment conditions are determined by an agreement between the presidency of the Inatsisartut and DJØF. The base salary and allowances correspond to the level for civil servants in the Greenlandic central administration. In addition, a seniority-based, pensionable allowance is provided, which amounts to at least 3,758.82 kroner per month. Furthermore, there is an opportunity to negotiate allowances based on qualifications.

Possibility of leave from another employment

Civil servants in the state and employees under a number of AC agreements are entitled to leave without pay in connection with employment under the Government of Greenland. The provisions regarding leave also include your possible spouse or partner.

Also be aware that the Ministry of the Interior in Denmark has urged municipalities and regions to show willingness to accommodate applications for unpaid leave in connection with employment under the Government of Greenland.

If you are already employed by the Greenland Self-Government or the municipalities, you will retain your accrued seniority when employed with us.

Application

Applications with CV, bachelor's and master's degree certificates, including transcripts, and other relevant attachments should be sent by email to job@ombudsmand.gl.

Your application must be received by us no later than Monday, May 18, 2026. Job interviews are expected to be conducted on an ongoing basis. As a rule, interviews will be held in person, but may be conducted online depending on the circumstances. There may be more than one interview.
