The ownership structure of the institution

The Angerlarsimaffik Ivaneq is owned by the Government of Greenland and is organizationally under the Social Authority.

Places and departments

Ivaneq has 25 places distributed by age groups in 5 departments. The age group is 0-17 years.

Purpose

Ivaneq's purpose is to offer a safe, homely, and structured care environment with stable and accommodating adults who take responsibility for the children's well-being, development, and learning. The children should feel seen, heard, and included in the social community. Furthermore, it is a significant goal for the children to learn to navigate different types of relationships and communities, including institutional life, schooling, leisure activities, and friendships. Ivaneq emphasizes supporting the child's right to contact and interaction with parents and other close relationships. Finally, it is a goal for the children to learn to master everyday tasks and challenges so that they are equipped for independent and responsible living after leaving the institution.

 

Social pedagogical method

Ivaneq is based on recognition and relationship and attachment pedagogy. It is in the meeting and interaction with other people that the child develops self-understanding, self-esteem, and self-confidence, just as it is in the interaction with others that the child learns to give and receive recognition. A stable, inclusive, and recognizing adult contact is the foundation for the child to thrive and unfold its potential. The primary and secondary educators play a key role as a safe and secure haven for the child. Other key concepts in the initiatives and collaboration at Ivaneq are recognition, decency, responsibility, and professionalism.

All the important pedagogical methods we use

• A secure base for the child – use of primary and secondary pedagogue
• Structure and predictability – fixed daily rhythms for all departments
• An active everyday life – all children should be offered age-appropriate activities every day.
• A common attitude towards well-being – rules of conduct in all departments, etc.

Ivaneq emphasizes maintaining a good collaboration with the local schools as well as the healthcare system and the police. There is also collaboration with external psychologists on teaching and supervision.

 

Special offers/facilities

Ivaneq often uses nature as a framework for social pedagogical initiatives, including sailing and stays in cabins.

The tasks of the educator include, among other things:

• Primary pedagogical function
• Daily observations, analysis, and reflection in the children's diaries
• Preparation of half-year report and educational assessments
• Support the children in an active and healthy lifestyle.
• Participate in fjord colonies
• Close collaboration with management

• You are a trained educator.
• You are aware that you will mean a lot to the children and young people you are responsible for.
• You are aware of the consequences of neglect in children and young people.
• You live off the small successes in everyday life.
• You can handle conflicts.
• You are positive and see opportunities rather than limitations.
• You are prepared to actively participate in the internal training.
• You are bilingual (Greenlandic/Danish), but this is not a requirement.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving and relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is allocated for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the allocated staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon the termination of the employment relationship.
