"Upernavik means "The Spring Place" in Greenlandic. Upernavik is one of the northernmost located towns and is situated in the middle of a labyrinth of small islands, for traditional settlements, enormous icebergs, millions of birds, and the elusive narwhal.

About the position

Become part of a team in Upernavik with 20 employees, where you will be met by skilled, dedicated, and welcoming colleagues. In addition, you can daily receive support as a member of a professional group consisting of the power plant staff from the district's other towns, Uummannaq & Qaanaaq.

You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the villages' power plants and buildings.

You will have a high degree of influence and the opportunity to affect and plan the daily work, and not least, you will become part of a good community where we focus on performing good technical craftsmanship.

Your immediate supervisor will be the Team Leader for villages in Upernavik.

You will help ensure that rules, guidelines, and laws are followed regarding the handling of the technical aspects and, not least, regarding maintenance work.

It is possible that you will have shift arrangements and there may be travel.

Responsibilities can be adjusted if you have special qualifications for this, and there will be opportunities for personal development if you show potential and are eager for more.

Your main responsibilities:

• Operation and maintenance of the power plants' facilities and buildings, including cleaning and tidying up everywhere at the plants in the villages.
• Responsibility for street lighting, cable cabinets, inspections of the electrical supply in the villages.
• Contribute to the optimization and efficiency of operations.
• Assist in the professional training and motivation of colleagues.
• Assist in the education of apprentices.
• Ensure the use of maintenance programs and other systems is applied to solve tasks.
• Ongoing training in administrative tasks.

We are looking for you with these qualifications:

• Are trained as an Electrician or Electrical Installer.
• Can handle various types of tools and machines, and experience with maintenance of heavy machinery is an advantage.
• Have experience with maintenance of larger diesel engines (valve grinding, piston pull, etc.).
• Are reliable.
• Can work independently as well as have the ability to work in a team.
• Have a driver's license for at least category B (regular car license).
• It is an advantage if you speak both Greenlandic and Danish.
• It is an advantage if you have a certificate of competence for sailing.

Salary and employment conditions:

Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between Naalakkersuisut (Greenland Self-Government) and the relevant professional organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.

No housing can be provided for the position. If you have already been provided with housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the provided housing will be maintained.
