Avannaata Municipality is seeking an environmental worker in Upernavik with employment starting on December 1, 2026. The tasks include preventive work among children and young people as well as participation in activity plans and leisure activities. Qualifications include experience in social work.

Environmental worker sought for Upernavik

Avannaata Municipality is looking for an environmental worker in Upernavik with employment from December 1, 2026 or by further agreement.

The environmental worker's tasks will be preventive work among children and youth as well as families in the town and settlements of Upernavik, and the nearest supervisor will be the department head in Health and Leisure in Upernavik.

The environmental worker should expect changing working hours.

As an environmental worker, you will among other things work with the following tasks:

  • Development of early intervention in the prevention area in collaboration with all relevant parties in the municipality
  • Participate in the planning of annual activity plans and reporting
  • Participate in the work with leisure activities for children and youth.
  • Work for the local prevention committee
  • Environmental work in the municipality, early prevention efforts, organize activities in health and leisure, implementation and follow-up. Completion of tasks delegated by the administrative director based on political decisions
  • Work with the municipality's local plans and with tasks based on recommendations from the prevention committee
  • Be responsible for the puppet project for school students
  • Work according to the current Prevention Policy and action plans

We emphasize the following professional qualifications in applicants:

A degree as either a social worker, educator, but it is not a requirement; a person with another degree and experience in social work can also be considered.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between Naalakkersuisut and the negotiating organization at the time of commencement.

No staff housing can be assigned to the position.

Employment is subject to a satisfactory criminal record and child certificate. These will be obtained by the hiring authority with the employee's written consent, after which the hiring authority will request these from the National Police.
