Avannaata Municipality is seeking a financial consultant for the Accounting Department in Ilulissat. The position involves responsibility for bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and internal control. We are looking for a structured and analytical person with relevant education and experience in accounting and finance.
Economic Consultant for the Accounting Department in Ilulissat
Avannaata Municipality is looking for an engaged and competent consultant for the Accounting Department in Ilulissat, starting on November 1, 2026, or by further agreement.
The Accounting Department is a central part of the Economic Department in Avannaata Municipality and plays an important role in the municipality's financial administration and operations.
As a consultant, you will be part of an exciting and dynamic workplace with varied tasks. The position requires that you can work in a structured and independent manner, handle tasks and cases with tight deadlines, and maintain an overview in a busy everyday life. The position aims to strengthen the coherence between daily bookkeeping, period and year-end closing, as well as the management information based on accounting data. The consultant should be a specialist and sparring partner for the Accounting Department and the municipality's decentralized units.

The consultant reports to the head of accounting in the Accounting Department.
Job Description
In addition, the following tasks are included:
·Creditor bank transfer and bookkeeping.
·Account reconciliation and balance control.
·Systematic reconciliation and quality assurance of bank, intercompany, debtor, creditor, payroll, and other balance accounts.
·Contribute to the planning and execution of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings.
·Accounting internal control
·Perform sample-based and risk-based controls of bookkeeping, coding, approval, and documentation of vouchers.
·Contribute to compliance and ongoing updates of the municipality's cash and accounting rules.
·Analyze and reduce old open items and carried forward balances from previous financial years.
·Coordinate rebooking, collection, reimbursement, documentation, or recommendation for write-off according to applicable rules.
·Prepare status overviews of significant outstanding items, risks, and pending actions for the department's management.
·Coordinate materials and responses to the audit and follow up on audit comments and action plans.
·Prepare and maintain procedures, reconciliation guidelines, and closing checklists.
·Advise employees and managers on correct coding, periodization, documentation, and use of the financial system.
·Ad hoc tasks
We expect you to be:
Professional Competencies
·Relevant higher education in accounting, economics, or public administration, for example, Financial Controller, academy education in economics and resource management, HD in accounting and financial management, finance bachelor's, bachelor's in business economics, or equivalent.
·Alternatively, relevant office education combined with solid and documented experience from accounting, financial systems, and public administration.
·Practical experience with account reconciliations, balance control, period or year-end closing, and accounting documentation.
·Good understanding of debit and credit, periodization, intercompany accounts, debtors, creditors, and payroll-related accounts.
·Experience with Excel.
·Knowledge of municipal or public finance, auditing, and internal controls is a significant advantage.

Salary and Employment Conditions:
· Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between Naalakkersuisut and the negotiating organization.
