Chief Interpreter – The Court in Greenland is looking for a skilled and dedicated leader.

As a chief interpreter at the Court in Greenland, you contribute to solving an important societal task by ensuring that all parties understand each other. In doing so, you help support a fair trial and continued trust in the courts.

The position falls under the interpreting department at the Court in Greenland and is located in Nuuk.

Your tasks:

As a chief interpreter, you are the daily leader of the interpreting department and in addition to interpreting, you will be responsible for distributing tasks to interpreters and freelancers as well as managing business trips and duty schedules. You will work with communication, coordination, and planning and solve small and large practical as well as administrative tasks so that the interpreting department can deliver the best possible interpretation and translation. You will also help ensure that both oral interpretation and written translations are of the highest standard and quality. Furthermore, you will be part of the court's management forum and the strategic work.

The interpreting department assists the district courts, the Court in Greenland, and Greenland's High Court with translation tasks in all types of cases. You will gain in-depth knowledge of the many different cases that are processed in the Courts in Greenland.

In addition to work in the courtroom, you will work with written translation of court and judgment books or appendices. We use simultaneous interpretation to a large extent, but also dialogue interpretation. During court meetings, you will most often be present in the courtroom, but you will need to interpret via televideo from your workstation or via phone.

We are looking for an interpreter with the following profile:

- It is an advantage, but not a requirement, that you have documented management experience from a previous position; alternatively, you are interested in management and wish to pursue a management path

- Are educated as an interpreter, preferably with a master's degree or BA in Greenlandic language

- Have excellent skills in Greenlandic, Danish, and preferably English

- Have experience with simultaneous interpreting

- Have good hearing and are quick to understand what is being said

- Have a good overview, are mentally robust, and are good at working under pressure.

- Have good collaboration skills, are reliable, and loyal to colleagues as well as the confidentiality that applies to the job

- Are willing to put in extra effort when court meetings run long, or there are many judgments to translate

- Are flexible and can participate in business trips with judges and court secretaries

- Can work independently and maintain an overview, even in busy periods

- Are interested in culture and society

Salary and employment conditions

Employment is in accordance with the applicable collective agreement with SIK. If you come from a city other than Nuuk, we will pay for relocation travel and moving expenses according to the provisions of the agreement.

We can also provide housing, for which you will need to pay rent etc. according to applicable rules. We will, in connection with the employment procedure, with your consent, obtain a copy of the criminal record.
