Peqqinneq Sunngiffik is looking for an environmental worker

In the Avannaata Municipality's department in Qaanaaq, a position as an environmental worker is advertised with a start date of 01.11.2026 or by agreement.

The position as an environmental worker in Qaanaaq involves preventive work among children, youth, and families.

Your immediate supervisor will be the head of the service center in Qaanaaq.

The environmental worker collaborates closely with the prevention consultant and the family counselor, and this team organizes the internal collaboration themselves.

The person we hire must be able to work independently, be trustworthy, be good at communication, and be stable in their work and psychologically resilient.

As an environmental worker, you will have the following tasks, among others:

• You will handle the tasks referred by the prevention committee, and which are agreed upon between the employees in the family house and the environmental worker regarding vulnerable children and adults
• You will be responsible for ensuring that the support is of good quality and is provided in accordance with the children's age as well as the municipality's goals and prevention goals
• You must be able to act based on the individual child's or adult's situation and needs, as well as relay information and follow-ups to the prevention consultant and the employees in the family house
• You will also participate in the general development, improvement of environmental work, other preventive initiatives, and other initiatives for children and families
• You will participate in meetings and receive and relay information, including about various issues within the prevention work, which are discussed based on working environment and psychological conditions
• You will prepare monthly notes on the cases for the prevention consultant and inform the other employees in the family house about all your remarks, concerns, and matters that you assess in your work are not appropriate
• You will ensure to develop your competencies through courses and other educational offers within prevention work

The environmental worker should expect changing working hours, depending on the needs of the child or youth being followed.

Educational requirements:

It is desired that the environmental worker hired has a social or health-related education or an education as a pedagogue. However, this is not an inflexible requirement, as a person with another education and experience in social work may also be qualified for the position.

Salary and employment conditions:

Employment occurs in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between Naalakkersuisut and the negotiating organization.

No housing is provided in connection with the position.

Employment is based on a satisfactory official criminal record. The criminal record is obtained by the employer from the National Police with the applicant's consent.
