We are looking for an experienced orthopedic surgeon who can contribute to enhancing orthopedic surgery at Queen Ingrid's Hospital.

In the surgical department in Nuuk, we offer a consultant position in orthopedic surgery. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week + on-call duties).

Responsibilities and area of responsibility:

• The position involves on-call duties in a 3-shift rotation
• The applicant participates in acute work both during on-call and daytime
• Coastal trips will occur according to the Masterplan
• Outpatient function with patients from all orthopedic subspecialties
• General administrative tasks.

Responsible for hand surgery:

We are looking for an experienced orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty in hand surgery and maintained competencies in acute orthopedic surgery.

You will be responsible for hand surgery in the Orthopedic Department. You will be employed in the Surgical Area with a function in the Orthopedic Department K1.

In your daily/professional work, you will report to the functionally responsible consultant in the orthopedic area. For employment-related or administrative tasks, you will report to the chief consultant for the Surgical Area.

• Specialist in orthopedic surgery with broad experience
• Subspecialist in hand surgery, and able to handle most hand surgery issues locally
• Familiar with the Greenlandic healthcare system. Ideally from previous shorter or longer employments

A bit about the Surgical Area and Department K1

The Surgical Area at Queen Ingrid's Hospital serves both outpatient and inpatient patients from all over Greenland. The Surgical Area has three surgical wards:

K1. Orthopedic Department – Musculoskeletal disorders, as well as ear, nose, and throat diseases

K2. Parenchymal Surgical Department – Patients with gastrointestinal diseases, as well as urinary tract diseases

K3. Gynecological/Obstetric Department - Women's diseases

Furthermore, the Maternity Ward and Surgical Outpatient Clinic fall under the surgical area.

The area is led by a permanently employed head nurse and a chief consultant.

The Orthopedic Department K1 covers most orthopedic areas and has a nationwide function in wound treatment. The department has an acute function and receives patients from all over Greenland for both acute and elective surgery. The department has a total of 18 beds. The department accompanies or retrieves patients from many places in Greenland. The department has a good and stable employee group, which is predominantly bilingual. The department also has a very good network of short-term employees. The department has a permanently employed interpreter. We currently have 2 but aim for three permanently employed consultants. The department has a specialized wound outpatient clinic and wishes to further develop this function in 2027 and beyond. The department has a nationwide function in wound care and holds telemedicine meetings with regional hospitals and health centers as needed.

The department works with assigned patient care and continuously develops competencies in relation to assistants conducting ward rounds.

The department is very attentive to maintaining its good working environment – and has initiated initiatives to remain an attractive department.

Organizationally and cross-sectorally, we collaborate with regional hospitals on rehabilitation processes. Furthermore, we collaborate with home care in the various municipalities.

Here you will find both city and nature combined in one place. Everything you need is within walking distance. There are many dining options and cultural experiences, and you can quickly get out into the mountains or into the fjord. In winter, the northern lights are part of your everyday life, and you can also ski both cross-country and alpine. In summer, the days are long, and your free time can be spent hiking, spotting reindeer, or you can sail into the fjord to fish, see seals, and whales.

Housing will be provided according to the rules applicable in the Greenlandic Health Service at any given time.

Salary and employment

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
