The Department of Social Affairs is seeking an AC officer to develop initiatives for socially vulnerable adults and the elderly in Greenland. The position involves project work, analysis, and political support in a collaborative environment. We are looking for a dedicated employee with a relevant academic background.

Do you want to help develop initiatives for the most vulnerable in society?

In the Department of Social Affairs, Families, Labor Market, and Interior Affairs, we are looking for an AC officer who will help develop and strengthen initiatives for socially vulnerable adults and the elderly in Greenland.

You will play a central role in the work of developing social initiatives across areas – with a particular focus on creating better coherence, quality, and impact in the initiatives for the weakest citizens in society.

The position is broadly based and includes project work, analysis, coordination, and political servicing.

About the position

You will be part of a professionally strong environment where we work to translate political goals into concrete initiatives, projects, and solutions.

The tasks are diverse and will include:

  • Planning, coordination, and operation of social policy projects and development initiatives
  • Development and implementation of initiatives for socially vulnerable adults and the elderly
  • Contributing to political servicing, including presentations to the Naalakkersuisut, notes, and analyses
  • Responding to Inatsisartut §37 questions and other political inquiries
  • Coordination and process management in cross-cutting working and project groups
  • Preparation of background notes, decision proposals, and analyses
  • Contributing to internal and external communication, including presentations, speeches, and press releases

The position entails a high degree of independence and responsibility, where you are expected to drive tasks forward – while also collaborating closely with colleagues and external parties.

We are looking for a profile that can drive tasks and create momentum

We are looking for an employee with commitment and a desire to make a difference for socially vulnerable citizens. You will have a central role in a department close to the political decision-making processes. The tasks are varied and span broadly between analysis, management, and development – and you will have the opportunity to both contribute to and shape the tasks yourself.

The work also involves cross-cutting collaboration both internally in the department and across the central administration, particularly in relation to social policy and economic issues.

The everyday life consists of both larger analytical tasks and smaller operational tasks, and there are good opportunities to bring your own ideas and initiatives into play.

The most important thing is not that you have many years of experience – but that you have motivation, a sense of responsibility, and a desire to take charge of tasks and processes.

We expect that you have:

  • A relevant academic education (bachelor's or master's)
  • An interest in – or a desire to work with – the social area and welfare
  • Drive and a desire to lead and manage projects and processes
  • Work structured and can create an overview in complex tasks
  • Understanding of both economic and legal contexts
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Thrives with both independent tasks and teamwork
  • A desire to learn and develop in a politically governed organization

Experience or interest in project work, public administration, and knowledge of the social area is an advantage, but not a requirement.

We are open to both experienced candidates and recent graduates with the right commitment and potential.

Knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions and culture is an advantage, but not a requirement. Bilingualism is also an advantage, but not a requirement.

About the department

The Department of Social Affairs and Families is responsible for preparing, among other things, the professional and political decision basis for political legislative initiatives, strategies, and actions.

The department has overall responsibility for the development of the area for vulnerable adults and the elderly. In addition, the department is responsible for services to adults and families.

You will be part of the entire process – from the initial analyses and model notes to a case being prepared, through the political decision to implementation and subsequent evaluation.

In addition, the department is involved in the daily operations, including contributions to consultation responses, reports, political servicing, and tasks related to the development and follow-up on the social area.

About the department

In the Department of Social Affairs, Labor Market, Families, and Interior Affairs, we have about 35 employees distributed across the departments of Management Secretariat, Social Affairs and Families, Labor Market, Interior Affairs, and the Supervision Unit.

We work to realize political goals across the sector. This includes, among other things, legislation, strategies, and development initiatives aimed at strengthening the conditions for vulnerable citizens in Greenland.

The work ranges from analyses and policy development to ministerial servicing, projects, and cross-cutting coordination.

We emphasize professionalism, collaboration, and a working environment where there is room for development, responsibility, and good ideas. Well-being and opportunities for learning are highly prioritized.

You should thrive in a politically governed organization, where the pace is often high, and where tasks vary between larger development projects and more urgent deliveries.

Culture and working environment

We are actively working to create a culture where professionalism, development, and innovation go hand in hand, and where all employees actively contribute to solving our tasks.

It is therefore important that you thrive in a collaborative environment where engagement, good humor, and sparring are a natural part of everyday life. Well-being and professional development are highly valued.

You should thrive in a politically governed organization, where the pace is often high, and deadlines can be short. At the same time, it is important that you can communicate complex contexts clearly and precisely – both in writing and orally.
