Economist or AC Fullmægtig with strong analytical skills for the Department of Social Affairs, Labor Market, Families, and Interior Affairs

We are looking for an economist with professional engagement, drive, and determination, who will play a central role in the economic development and support of upcoming reforms in the social sector.

About the position

You will have a central role in a department close to the political decision-making processes. The tasks are varied and span broadly between analysis, management, and development – and you will have the opportunity to both contribute to and shape the tasks yourself.

The work also involves cross-cutting collaboration both internally in the department and across the central administration, particularly in relation to social policy and economic issues.

Your daily work consists of both larger analytical tasks and smaller operational tasks, and there are good opportunities to bring your own ideas and initiatives into play.

Your tasks will include:

• Coordinator for upcoming reforms of social benefits, including public assistance, housing benefits, and pensions
• Preparation of economic analyses and impact assessments of new initiatives, including legislative proposals, budget analyses, and model notes
• General ministerial support, including briefing notes, presentations, and materials for budget negotiations
• Preparation of budget contributions for the department's area
• Budget planning, budget follow-up, and financial management
• Legislative preparatory work
• Implementation, evaluation, and follow-up on reforms and strategies
• Preparation and quality assurance of reports to the Inatsisartut
• Preparation of response notes, consultation responses, and response letters on behalf of the Minister
• Coordination and participation in cross-cutting working groups
• Follow-up on municipal reimbursements in the social sector

We expect that you have:

• Master's degree as cand.oecon., cand.scient.pol., cand.polit. or another relevant economic education
• Experience from a similar position or relevant field
• Interest in working in a politically governed organization
• Strong communication skills – both written and oral
• Ability to analyze and work with economic data
• Experience with or interest in economic and budget management
• Ability and desire to take independent responsibility
• Enjoyment in interdisciplinary collaboration and holistic solutions
• Good collaboration skills, engagement, and a positive mindset

Knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions and culture is an advantage, but not a requirement. Bilingualism is also an advantage, but not a demand.

About the department

The Department of Social Affairs and Families is tasked with preparing, among other things, the professional and political decision-making basis for political legislative initiatives, strategies, and actions.

The department has overall responsibility for the development of the area for vulnerable adults and the elderly. In addition, the department is responsible for services to adults and families.

You will be part of the entire process – from the initial analyses and model notes to a case being prepared, through the political decision to implementation and subsequent evaluation.

Additionally, the department is involved in daily operations, including contributions to consultation responses, reports, political support, and tasks related to the development and follow-up on the social sector.

In the Department of Social Affairs, Labor Market, Families, and Domestic Affairs, we have about 35 employees spread across the departments of Management Secretariat, Social Affairs and Families, Labor Market, Domestic Affairs, and the Supervision Unit.

We work to realize political goals across the sector. This includes, among other things, legislation, strategies, and development initiatives aimed at strengthening the conditions for vulnerable citizens in Greenland.

The work ranges from analyses and policy development to ministerial support, projects, and cross-cutting coordination.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary - and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The position is primarily filled as a Fullmægtig or Special Consultant. If one is an academic, there will also be the possibility of employment as a Chief Consultant depending on qualifications.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
