Avannaata Municipality is seeking a Head of Department for the Disability Area, who will lead the family departments and ensure proper case handling and documentation. The position requires experience in social work and management as well as good collaboration skills. Employment from October 1, 2026, or by agreement.

Head of the Disability Area in Ilulissat

The Administration for Family in Avannaata Municipality is seeking a Head of the Disability Area to be filled by October 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

The position as Head of Family is located in Ilulissat, where the Head of Family reports directly to the Director of Family.

Job tasks and areas of responsibility:

• Has overall responsibility for ensuring that the family departments maintain proper case management and documentation in social cases, including that the department heads always have the necessary information to fulfill responsibilities and tasks satisfactorily.

• Is responsible for ensuring that management oversight is carried out in the local family departments that include support for individuals with disabilities is administered in accordance with the law and in accordance with budget allocations in the family area of Avannaata Municipality.

• Assists the family departments in their daily operations and management, ensuring a continuously strengthened quality and service level towards citizens.

• Is responsible for the development and implementation of the municipality's policies and quality standards in the family area.

• Provides ongoing advice and guidance to the family departments regarding expenditures in the family area, including especially obtaining monthly reports from the departments and, as needed, applications for budget reallocations or supplementary grants.

• Provides advice and guidance regarding the preparation of the annual budget in the family area and helps ensure that the annual budget is continuously revised and that allocations are adhered to.

• Is the coordinator in connection with the preparation of accounting notes. Ensures that feedback from the departments in connection with the preparation of accounting and budget notes is discussed in the central administration for family and submitted for political consideration.

Qualifications:

• That you are a trained social worker – preferably supplemented by professional courses in the areas of economics and social law or willingness to take such courses.

• Broad social and family professional knowledge, preferably with management experience in the social and family area, especially in the economic area and in legal oversight.

• Management experience in the economic area in municipal administration would be an advantage.

• Management experience in administration in the social and family area.

Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with applicable agreements between the municipality and relevant organizations entitled to enter into agreement contracts.

Housing will be provided.

It is required that upon employment, satisfactory information about your criminal record and child certificate is provided. Once these have been signed by the applicant with approval, the employer must subsequently obtain these from the National Police.
