GUX Aasiaat is looking for a full-time counselor

The Nord Greenland Gymnasium in Aasiaat is Greenland's northernmost located gymnasium. The school is situated at the edge of Disko Bay and accepts students from all over North Greenland. A large part of the school's students live in dormitories located right by the school, giving the school a character of being a boarding school - without being one entirely. At the start of the school year, there will be around 250 students, but the dropout rate is high, so by the end of the school year, there will be significantly fewer.

We want to strengthen the guidance of the students. Therefore, we are establishing a new full-time counselor position.

The main areas of guidance include:

• Preparation for the transition from primary school to GUX.
• Participation in various introductory events for 1st-year students.
• Personal conversations with students about well-being.
• Absence conversations.
• Management of exam anxiety among students.
• Planning and execution of parent evenings and open house events.
• Planning and execution of counselor trips to the larger cities.
• Participation in team meetings related to grade assessments in November and March.
• Referring students to study counseling.
• Updating information in the IT registry for new applicants.
• Conclusions from integration and other conversations are uploaded to student cases in Lectio, so everyone in management and counseling is informed.
• Interpreter for other school staff in connection with conversations with students.
• Handle inquiries from outside via phone and email and coordinate with other school consultants.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

An unfurnished staff housing can be assigned for the position according to the applicable rules at any time. Rent and deposit are paid according to the applicable rules for the assigned housing. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the housing, ownership conditions, etc. There may be a waiting period for the assignment of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller housing communities or hotel apartments, for which there will be taxation.
