Geologist

The role consists of ensuring no delays in mine production while minimizing dilution. Involved in underground exploration program, including logging of underground core. Involved in creating 3D model.

MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide daily direction to underground mining crews to optimize the grade and tonnage of mine excavations.
• Perform effective grade control through mapping, sampling, and monitoring of underground and surface excavations according to standards.
• Responsible for extraction, dilution, and weekly/monthly ore loss reconciliation analysis with mine planner to support continuous improvement of plan.
• Perform grade control reporting in the form of daily grade control instructions.
• Perform underground core logging and sampling.
• Work with assay lab to ensure rapid sample turn-around and carry out assay and QAQC reviews.
• Communicate effectively with Engineering and Mining Teams to allow decisions to be made using the best available data.
• Produce quality geologic interpretations for use in ore development and stope design.
• Compile and complete structural geological mapping of underground headings and interpretations.
• Create grade control block models as needed by using geological, structural, and diamond drilling geological information.
• Participate in planning of development layouts and monitor the adherence.
• Participate in short/long term mine plans and process optimization.
• Daily production tracking, data control, ore/waste movement, and reconciliation of production and development data of the mining contractor for daily/weekly/monthly reports.
• Participate in the preparation in resource modelling for mine planning.
• Comply with all company policies and safety procedures to maintain and promote a safe workplace. Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
• Actively promote site safety, environmental health, and quality of mining activities.
• Ensure safe work practices, own health and safety and all other workers’ by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported.
• Demonstrate a desire for professional and personal growth through training, review, and team interactions.
• Participate in risk assessments as required.
• Participate preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's).
• Participate in technical reviews.
• Participate in preparation of technical reports.
• Any other reasonably requested task within the skill set.
