We are looking for Greenlandic trainees in underground mining work.
The position as Trainee for Underground Mining has been developed with the aim of training the next generation of skilled Greenlandic underground miners. You will receive structured, practical training that step by step introduces you to all the central aspects of working in an underground mine, as your skills and confidence develop.
This entry-level position provides access to stable career opportunities with high demand in a modern underground mine, in a safety-focused underground mine.
Your development will follow a structured and competency-based training program:
1. Introduction to underground mining and basic safety
- Introduction to the working environment in the underground mine.
- Understanding the mine's safety culture, identification of risks, as well as emergency and contingency procedures.
- Basic standards for work underground, labeling and locking systems, communication procedures, and safe work routines.
2. Shadowing the shift supervisor
- You will shadow the shift supervisor during daily inspections.
- You will gain insight into all active work areas, mining methods, and daily operational priorities.
- You will understand how work teams are coordinated and how work is planned.
3. Operation of light vehicles and support for work teams
Once you have gained experience working underground
- You will be trained to operate light vehicles in accordance with the mine's traffic rules.
- Transport of consumables, equipment, and tools to the work teams.
- Assistance with general support tasks in the underground mine.
4. Construction and mine services
You will gain practical experience in supporting:
- Installation and maintenance of ventilation.
- Installation of water, air, and electrical supply systems.
- Road construction, support during rock clearing, and general construction tasks in the mine.
5. Operation of heavy equipment
With documented reliability and knowledge of the transport routes underground:
- Training in operating underground mine trucks, water trucks, fuel trucks, or service vehicles.
- Focus on safe operation, pre-start checks, and proper maintenance and care of the equipment.
6. Operation of LHD machines (Scoop)
Once you have demonstrated the necessary skills:
- Training in operating Load–Haul–Dump machines (LHD).
- Execution of unloading and transport of loose rock material, moving ore, and collaborating with production areas in the mine.
This is a central role in underground production and an important milestone in your career.
Minimum requirements
- Completed 12th grade or equivalent education
- Ability to speak and understand English at a functional level
- Medically fit for work in an industrial processing facility
- Willing and able to work on Sundays and perform overtime
- Reliable, disciplined, and focused on working under safety guidelines
- Willing to work shifts with both day and night shifts
- Willing and able to live in a remote camp for 4-week rotation periods, and comply with all camp rules
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural work environment alongside colleagues from diverse backgrounds
- Experience with heavy equipment is an advantage but not necessary. The most important thing is the right attitude, the desire to learn, and a strong understanding of safety.
The position is a full-time position with a rotation schedule of 4 weeks of work and 4 weeks off.
