We are the Supervisory Unit – part of the Naalakkersuisut – and our everyday work fundamentally revolves around strengthening quality, legal security, and professionalism in the social sector throughout Greenland. We conduct an overarching, dialogue-based supervision of the municipalities' management and administration of social legislation, and we work closely with local professional environments to create improvements that can be felt in practice.

A large part of our work takes place where the tasks are solved: out in the municipalities, in towns and settlements. Here we review selected citizen cases and look at both the legal aspects and the social professional quality. Supervision can be announced – but can also be conducted unannounced – and we emphasize decency, respect, and clear communication throughout the process.

We also have independent supervision of the residential institution sector, where we look at both operational and pedagogical conditions – across the Self-Government's own offerings, municipal institutions, as well as self-governing and private residential institutions for children and residential services for people with disabilities. When we visit, it is about understanding the everyday life in the offerings and contributing to development through professional dialogue, systematic follow-up, and clear conclusions.
