Sungiusarfik Ikinngut

At Sungiusarfik Ikinngut, we work to ensure that people with physical and mental disabilities can have a safe home and a daily life where development, dignity, and self-determination are at the center. We are a nationwide residential institution in Ilulissat, and our common goal is to support the residents in becoming as self-sufficient as possible – at their own pace and with respect for each individual's resources.

Daily life with us is about pedagogical work close to people. We create structure, calm, and familiarity, and we work purposefully with observation, training, guidance, and social skills training. At the same time, we emphasize relationships and presence: that the resident feels seen, heard, and understood, and that we take responsibility for creating an environment where it is safe to try new things and learn from small and large steps.

We are organized into two departments with a total of 20 places, and the institution also includes a workshop and a small bakery. This gives us good opportunities to work practically and meaningfully with everyday skills, activity, and participation – and to create small success experiences that can be felt in both well-being and independence.
