Teknika is seeking an instructor with a passion for and skills in strong coordination for the marine engineer program in Sisimiut. You will teach practical disciplines and play a vital role for the students. The job involves teaching, mentoring, coordinating, and light administrative tasks.
Teknika is seeking an instructor with a desire and ability for strong coordination for Teknikas' marine engineering education in Sisimiut.
You will be teaching the first important part of the marine engineering education (the workshop course). Thus, you will play an important role for the students, who will continue their education in Denmark after the workshop course.
The workshop course in Sisimiut is located at KTI, Greenland Technical College.
Your title will be instructor, but your role will be broader than that.
You will teach in vocational disciplines such as welding, machining, workshop techniques, and if you also have experience with, for example, pneumatics, engine theory, materials science, electrical engineering, and technical documentation, that would be fantastic. But less can also suffice.
Your everyday life will primarily be with the students who will be taught in a mix of theory and practice. The students come with a high school background and some also with work experience. They all need to improve their skills in craft disciplines so that they understand that part of the marine engineering education. The heavy theory will only be introduced when they reach the 4th semester in Denmark.
You will be part of a daily routine with close contact with the students, where relationships, clarity, and responsibility play an important role. The work ranges from the role of teacher and mentor to coordination and lighter administrative tasks. Study administration, study and internship guidance will be handled at Teknikas Campus in Lyngby.
You are mostly alone as a teacher, but in daily life, you also have contact with colleagues from KTI, the Raw Materials School, and Arctic DTU, with whom Teknika shares the campus.
In addition, instructors, advisors, or other colleagues from Teknika in Lyngby come regularly, and we also expect you to go to Lyngby for shorter periods, for example for training, education, or courses.
The position does not include housing.
About you
We imagine that you are trained as a marine engineer, machinist, blacksmith, or similar.
It is important that you can teach and create structure – and meet students in a clear and respectful manner.
The teaching must be conducted in Danish, as the rest of the education in Denmark and all teaching materials as well as exams are in Danish.
Knowledge of Greenlandic culture is an advantage, but otherwise we share our experience before starting.
You need to be very independent in solving tasks, as you won't always have a colleague at hand – but we are of course always ready to help from a distance.
It is definitely an advantage if you are an outdoor person, as the nature in Sisimiut is fantastic to spend time in during your free time. There are opportunities for skiing, hiking, dog sledding, and much more.
We emphasize that you:
-
can create trusting relationships with students
-
works independently and is able to manage your tasks and time on your own
-
can support students in navigating their education
-
can contribute to a good study environment, also in collaboration with Arctic DTU and KTI
-
can maintain an overview in a busy everyday life
-
thrives in working very independently
-
can handle difficult conversations and contribute to conflict resolution
-
easier guidance and conversations with students
-
help the students with their internship search and to maintain contact with the students during their internship
-
contribute to ensuring that the contact with Teknika in Lyngby is structured, honest, and supportive in both directions
-
Support the students before the transition period when they are going to Denmark to continue their education.
As a teacher/coordinator, you report to the study leader in Lyngby, and your closest colleagues will be the teachers in the workshop course in Lyngby.
We offer
An exciting job in an educational environment in development, where the work with students is close, relational, and varied.
The start date is August 1, 2026, or by agreement.
